Kenefick Ranch
2003 Cabernet Franc 'Caitlins' Select'
This kenefick guy is a retired doc who decided that it would take a brain surgeon to figure out where in the Napa Valley Cab Franc would grow best. So, back a few years ago, he (Tom Kenenfick) planted some Cab, some Franc, some Syrah, a little Petit Verdot, and some Sauvignon Blanc on his 125 acre ranch just outside of Calistoga in the northern end of the Napa Valley.
After a bunch of serious wineries including Behrens & Hitchcock, Lewis, Etude, and Suhr Luchtel began making seriously tasty wines from Kenefick's grapes the doc had a brain-storm: "Why don't I make my own Cab and Cab Franc?" he thought, "I'll even name the Cab Franc to honor my kid Caitlin," ..."AND" he continued, "I'll blend in some of our Merlot (14%) and 9% Cab-Sav."
Well, when he finished bottling his 484 cases of the liquid he noticed that the flavors of currants, chocolate mocha, and even licorice were really good... "this wine doesn't suck" he thought "all my frineds will love it!"
All of your friends will too, say the brilliant OWC folks... except for those who are brain-dead.
